Visiting The Real Up House

Wednesday, July 6, 2022

I am sure you have seen the Disney's movie Up that came out in 2009 that tells the story of Carl and the new adventure he is able to embark on with balloons to take his home, in hopes of making it to Paradise Falls. The movie had so much heart and is a favorite of mine. This real UP House is an exact replica of Carl and Ellie’s house; except it won't float away.

This house was built in 2011 and the local developer actually acquired the exclusive rights and authorization from Walt Disney Corporation to build it. This house has the exact same colors, style and charm that Carl and Ellie's home had too. The developer, Blair Bangerter, who built this home actually had no plans to sell the home but ended up selling it to the Hamblin family.

Adventure is out there!

Located in Salt Lake City suburb of Herriman, Utah about 35 minutes away from Salt Lake City.

Before the pandemic, fans of the movie were able to book a photo shoot inside this house and take photos for a fee. But that is currently not available at this time, although quick outdoor photo shoots are still allowed. If staying longer than a few moments for photo shoots, you can contact the owners for arrangements. All photo shoots require a reservation.

What really makes this home very special is that inside the home, it is also decorated like the movie too.  I would've loved to see what's it's like inside.  And next time we will bring balloons for a fun picture!

Please keep in mind this is a private residence. Owners do live in this home and so it is asked to take your photo/s outside the fence and move along so that you do not disturb the people living there or the neighbors.

Anyway, the house from the outside is super cute and is located in the corner of a quiet, lovely neighborhood.  It was well worth the little side trip while we were in town.

  6. That is a riot. Not my cup of tea, but they must love it to have spent so much money and effort to build it. We live in Central Florida, where several films have been made. 15 minutes from us, in Bartow, is the "My Girl" house, and acquaintances own the house where China Moon was made.
