The Many Benefits of Flying Business Class

The light tunnel at Detroit Metro Airport McNamara Terminal.

As the airlines look for more ways to cut costs and cram more paying customers onboard, economy class is becoming quite an ordeal, even for the veteran flyer. Long haul flights are bordering on uncomfortable, as airlines offers less for more, to try and stay ahead of the competition, and if you have 3 days to spend in recovery mode, a 12-hour flight in economy doesn’t seem so bad. If you are one of those who think that business class is expensive, here are just a few of the benefits you can expect to enjoy when you fly business class.

  • Priority Check In – Forget the long queues, as business class flights include exclusive check in facilities, making the experience a pleasant way to board the aircraft.  Business class also board first, reducing the time you have to wait, and with all the comforts of your cabin, you are happy to spend that time on the aircraft.

  • Business Class Lounge - Once you have checked in your baggage, you can relax in the business class lounge, another of the advantages of flying business. Relaxing ambience, food and drink and excellent restroom facilities, you can even order a soothing massage. This really helps when you have to wait a few hours for the ongoing leg of your journey, and you can probably book a comfy bed.

  • Additional Baggage Allowance – Always welcome, the extra kg means you can bring gifts for the whole family. Airline policy varies on this, but most offer a reasonable weight addition and often turn a blind eye when overweight.

  • Superior Seating – Business class seats are designed with comfort in mind, and those extra inches really do make a difference. Some travel veterans see a long-haul flight as a delight, while those in economy have a completely different experience. You have access to top quality multimedia, with games, movies and music, all on tap. More legroom allows you to stretch, and never having to worry about disturbing your neighbor is a nice feeling.

  • Quality Dining – The standard is the same as first class, which would include a welcoming glass of champagne and a hot face towel. The food just keeps coming, and should you need anything, the hostess is never far away.

  • The Little Extras – A fluffy pillow and quality blanket are both standard in business class, as are socks and slippers, and with a bigger screen, you can enjoy the in-flight movies.

  • Priority Exit – When the aircraft is ready for disembarkation, first and business class exit before economy, allowing you to escape the big crowds. From the very first contact until the end of the flight, business class ticket holders enjoy a different experience to those in economy, and if you are a frequent flyer, the benefits are attractive.

If you are soon to be jetting off to the sun, check out the online ticket agencies, who often get business class seats at a reduced price and are happy to pass this onto the customer, and once you have experienced business class, there’s no going back.

  6. It seems like business class has a lot of perks! I've always flown economy except once when 3 of my kids and I were bumped up to first class. It was a lot of fun and fortunately my kids were super well behaved, quiet kids, so no one seemed to mind.
