Tampa Bay Day Trip: The Fort De Soto Park

Monday, January 15, 2018
The Fort Desoto State Park it is a small island at the lowest point of Tampa Bay. You can call it a beach, but Fort De Soto Park is much more than a beach. We were surprised at its size. This charming park provides a lovely beach, with the softest white sand and good shelling. I couldn’t find any sand dollar but I’m told that there are many to be found. There were not too many people, all scattered around, so we have the feeling of having the beach by ourselves. It is also a paradise for bird lovers; especially the water birds are numerous. Wildlife watching is so much fun and we saw a few dolphins, fish and pelicans. Take some food and have a nice picnic by the water or walk out to the pier and watch people catching some fish. Always a perfect day out.

Located at: 3500 Pinellas Bayway S, St Petersburg, FL 33715

Soft sand, emerald waters and shady pines await you at Fort De Soto Park.
Lovely beach, beautiful clear water, nothing better to revive the soul.

I absolutely love the ocean, palm trees and sunny days!

Fort De Soto Park has consistently received top rankings over time. In June 2011, it was named America's best family beach by the editors of Parents. The natural sandbar off the coast which acts as a lagoon-like pool for younger swimmers. You can camp directly on the water, fish from two free piers 24 hours a day, splash in calm waters, rent bikes and kayaks---you name it!

Saint Pete Pier

Beautiful and refined place for couples or family.

Birds watching and fishing are one of the activities you can do here.

Lay of the Land: Year round residents include pelicans, herons, egrets and plovers.

  1. This is making me miss St. Petersburg, FLA. As a child, we spent every summer at the beach from the day school let out until a week before we had to go back. I sure miss that blue water and sunny skies.

  2. That ocean is gorgeous! I try to spend some time in Florida at least once every 2 years and it's been awhile since I've been to Tampa. This makes me want to go.

    1. It becomes a habit for us as well to visit Florida every year. Our favorite beach destination 8-hrs from where we live is Destin Florida. True tropical paradise, the sugary sand and clearest water I have ever seen.

  12. It looks so beautiful and I love the fact that it also looks quite deserted. Nothing better than a beach to yourself.
