When it comes to America’s best road trips, it’s hard to beat the Pacific Coast Highway. Driving this route means hours cruising along stunning hillside overlooking the Pacific ocean and vista points for sparkling beach views. That is why, we are so thrilled when we drove for the first time to this iconic Highway.
You can start your trip from San Francisco to San Diego or San Diego to San Francisco. In addition you can extend your road trip by adding on the Oregon and Washington state. Depending on whether you do only California or all three states. I advise you to take your precious time to really enjoy all the charming beauty of Pacific Coast road trip.

Malibu is a small town with few tourist attractions. Spread out with a quaint little seaside village and hillside home. This narrow city connected to the Pacific Coast Highway which can get very congested with traffic. Just driving into Malibu is simply breathtaking.
We stop over at Malibu with (a 21 miles of scenic beauty) heading towards Santa Monica and Los Angeles. |
Malibu beach front house overlooks the Pacific Ocean. |
Set along a curving shoreline, the neighboring coastal community of Santa Monica that offers with upscale shopping, creative dining, and vibrant nightlife and entertainment. Technically, Santa Monica is independent from Los Angeles a dynamic oceanfront city in its own right. Santa Monica is also popular for its Pier and Amusement Park by the beach.
We enjoyed a leisurely drive from Malibu down to Santa Monica and Los Angeles. We found it to be one of the most gorgeous places we've seen. The scenery is simply stunning, with mountains coming right down to the sea, to some of the most beautiful beaches anywhere. The drive also takes you through areas with a "small town" feel and other areas where the mansions on both sides of the highway are impressive.
State Route 1 is a major north–south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of California. At a total of just over 659 miles , it is the longest state route in California. |
